Can Arsenal make it up to their fans with one big signing?
There is no need to bang on about what a torturous summer this has been for Arsenal fans in the transfer market, heightened by the spending spree over at rivals Tottenham as the facts speak for themselves.
But looking forward there is just over 48 hours for Arsenal to put a positive spin on events.
The mood around the club will no doubt be influenced by the result of tomorrow's North London derby, but regardless the feeling among fans is that Arsenal Football Club owe them.
So can they bring in one big signing? At this point just one will do. It will lift the spirits of fans, and lift players, of which Arteta, Wilshere and Giroud have all commented at one stage as to the club bringing in new additions.
The cash is available, so who could they sign?
Karim Benzema remains linked, but his agent says he is not leaving.
Angel di Maria remains linked, but Carlo Ancelotti says he is staying.
Mesut Ozil remains linked, but he himself says he is staying put.
So barring a dramatic u-turn at Real Madrid, the trio are off the shopping list.
In midfield Geoffrey Kondogbia has gone to Monaco, while Paul Pogba is not for sale. Josuha Guilavogui remains a possibility, but not one which will get supporters excited, and the latest reports claim he has struck a deal with Atletico Madrid.
Luis Suarez? Forget it, that ship has sailed and bridges with Liverpool burnt.
Jackson Martinez? Yes he is available at €40 million due to a release clause, but Arsenal are yet to express an interest in the striker.
Juan Mata? Yes Arsene Wenger admits he wants him, but Jose Mourinho will not be selling to a rival unless he is getting something in return, so that deal is off the menu.
Julian Draxler? Forget it, he is happy at Schalke and way overpriced, with figures of around £40 million plus being discussed.
The latest name to be linked is Salomon Kalou, which will get fans angry rather than excited.
The problem Arsenal face, is that not only is there increasingly limited time available - there are very few viable options for them. At the start of the summer it was different.
If the club are to turn it around and make 'one big signing', they need to be bold, and may need to offer more than a player's market value to make it happen.
Arsenal fans, which one player would you like to see the club sign, and could you see them signing?
