Arsenal and Tottenham miss out on ‘Bulgarian Gareth Bale’ as he heads to the Bundesliga

Todor Nedelev will join FSV Mainz from Botev Plovdiv on the 1st January 2014.

Over the past week a previously unknown young Bulgarian has been doing the rounds across media outlets on the continent - and in England it was no different.

The main reports suggested that Tottenham Hotspur were the team at the front of the queue for his services - with reports of an imminent deal being bandied around earlier in the week.

A left-footed winger, with pace to burn, an incredible delivery and a propensity to smash in a strike from long range - he could even be called the ‘Bulgarian Gareth Bale’ - but in reality his name is Todor Nedelev.

And just a couple of days ago the Botev Plovdiv winger, who recently made his debut for the Bulgarian national team, was being linked with Arsenal as well.

Reports in Italy suggested that The Gunners were impressed with what they saw from the player in scouting missions, and were ready to make a move to beat Spurs to this talent.

The 20-year-old starlet, who was the Bulgarian league’s top assister last term, grabbed a goal last weekend - continuing his excellent start to the season.

But while the North London interest was apparent - it will come to nothing.

Because Nedelev has signed a five-year-deal with Bundesliga outfit FSV Mainz 05 - which will come into effect on the 1st of January 2014.

A talented individual who has slipped through the net for the North London duo - but he is just 20-years-old, so we might yet see the ‘Bulgarian Gareth Bale’ in England yet.

Here is a video of him in action…
