£15m Manchester United target in 2010 ‘seduced’ into joining Ligue 1 side Bastia in 2013

Fenerbahce winger Milos Krasic has joined SC Bastia on loan till the end of the season.

There once was a time when Serbian winger Milos Krasic was one of Europe’s most highly sought after European talents. He first caught the eye playing for CSKA Moscow - with his long blonde hair and fast dribbling ability earning him comparisons to the likes of legendary Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved. It was around this time he caught the eye of Manchester United.

CSKA Moscow faced Manchester United in the Champions’ League Group Stage in 2009-10. Both home and away the performance of Krasic amazed Sir Alex Ferguson, with his pace and raw ability to take players on down the flanks an attribute Fergie was impressed with.

In the 3-3 draw between the sides in November 2009 Krasic was by far the best player on the Old Trafford turf that night. When he coolly rounded Edwin Van Der Sar to grab CSKA’s second goal of the game it was just reward for his exceptional performance.

After that performance interest in the player was palpable, with Manchester United said to be the front runners in landing the player for £15 million in the summer of 2010.

In the end, Juventus could not resist bringing in a player so physically akin to their club legend Nedved, and pipped United to his signature for the cool sum of €17.5 million.

He soon suffered with injury problems and a rapid dip in form. In his second season with the Bianconeri he played just nine games as they were crowned Italian champions.

Last summer he was sold to Turkish side Fenerbahce for €7 million in a move that was supposed to help rebuild his career - but he has again been disappointing.

In 2012-13, Krasic featured just 13 times in the Super Lig - scoring one goal. With new quotas on foreign players coming into effect this summer, Turkish clubs are looking to rid themselves of any unwanted talent.

Not long ago it appeared as if he had his next destination when Russian daily Izvestia claimed he was on the verge of a summer switch to join obscure Russian outfit FC Krasnodar.

But that has not come to pass; instead he will be playing in Ligue 1.

But not with one of the big boys of French football, instead signing for SC Bastia.

When Manchester United tried to sign Krasic, in 2010, Bastia were playing in the third tier of French football - on the verge of financial ruin.

But they have now announced his season long loan deal with pride:

"This brilliant player, who is seeking to play more ahead of next year's World Cup, has been seduced by the Bastia challenge."

Can he finally unleash his talent in France?
