Odds: West Brom 13/8, Draw 12/5, Swansea 15/8
Last season’s meeting: West Brom 2-1 Swansea – The Hawthorns, 9th March 2013
Both sides will be disappointed with the way they have started their seasons, Swansea in particular who would hoped to do better in their first two games despite a tough schedule.
A tough loss to Southampton on the opening day for West Brom was followed up by a draw at Everton. After last season’s excellent finishing position Steve Clark’s men should be expecting to push on even more after making some good signings in the transfer window.
Swansea have had a poor start to the season, especially when you consider the standard they have set for themselves over the past two years.
Michael Laudrup will be expecting a better performance and to get those crucial first points on the board, he will not want to go into the international break with a zero next to his team’s name.
The game will two teams who like to play their football battle it out at the Hawthorns, I think Swansea will finally get their season rolling with an important win that could give them some momentum going forward into the rest of the season.
West Brom suffered a blow this week by losing first choice goalkeeper Ben Foster with a stress fracture of the foot; he is expected to miss up to 12 weeks of action.
They did receive a boost when Nicolas Anelka returned to training after compassionate leave, manager Steve Clark said he would have to problems playing him against Swansea.
Last season’s reverse fixture:
First half goals from Routledge and Michu killed the game off despite Romelu Lukaku hitting back for the visitors just before halftime. West Brom continued their excellent campaign with this win; it put them into the top four at the time.
