Liverpool latest: Ilori to sign, one more imminent?

A round up of the latest news stories and transfer rumours focused on Liverpool.

Aly Cissokho and Joe Allen will play no part in the derby clash against Manchester United this weekend. after picking up knocks during the mid-week League Cup tie against Notts County, but Kolo Toure could be available, revealed Brendan Rodgers. Cissokho is likely to be out for around six weeks.

Liverpool have all-but sealed a deal for Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori, with the defender set to fly to England to complete a deal within the next 24 hours. The deal between Liverpool and Sporting Lisbon could cost £8 million, with the 20-year-old rejecting advances from Monaco and Valenica, write The Mirror.

There could yet be another addition. Liverpool are negotiating with PSG for the transfer of highly rated central defender Mamadou Sakho. L'Equipe write that PSG want a minimum of €16 million for the centre-back.

Liverpool have apologised to Manchester United after the club’s official Twitter account appeared to mock the Munich air disaster. Liverpool asked supporters for song suggestions to play before the clash this Sunday, which prompted a number of tunes from fans which have been adapted to glorify the disaster.

Steven Gerrard has spoken ahead of the match, suggesting that while Liverpool may not be in the best shape, they can still challenge United for the three points.

“We know it's going to be a very tough match. I think they'll come here and probably look to play on the counter-attack again, but we're at home and have got to take the game to them. Our tails are up,” said Gerrard.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby has suggested that it’s time for Martin Skrtel to step up in the match against United, commenting prior to the news Kolo Toure could yet be available for the weekend.

“It's been a difficult time for Martin Skrtel but Liverpool desperately need him to deliver when they face Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday,” said the Dane in the Liverpool Echo.

One of Rodger’s deputies, Mike Marsh, has also been trying to fire up Jordan Henderson ahead of the match, suggesting the midfielder can hit double figures in terms of goals this season. Henderson is in contention to start the match against United at Anfield.

Liverpool are expected to make a move for experienced Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given. Given has been told he can leave Villa Park this summer and Brendan Rodgers is thought to want experienced cover to go alongside Brad Jones, providing back up to number one Simon Mignolet.

In a more random rumour, Italian sources have reportedly suggested that Liverpool are going up against Crystal Palace to try and sign Montenegrin star Deni Hocko. The 19-year-old currently plays for Buducnost Podgorica and has been compared to Andrea Pirlo.

In a repeat of an old story, defender Daniel Agger has one again confirmed his commitment to the club with reports suggesting Barcelona could make a late bid for him. Agger said earlier this summer that he would not contemplate leaving Anfield unless the club wanted to sell him.

In further good news away from the transfer market, Rodgers has insisted that he does not hold a grudge against Luis Suarez for his actions earlier this summer. Rodgers has reiterated that the saga, which could have seen the forward leave the club, is over and he’s looking forward to being able to select him.
