As Manchester City prepare to face Hull City this Saturday, we predict the starting line-ups.
Manchester City may be many people’s tip for the title, but last Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Cardiff City showed that this season’s Premier League could be more unpredictable than most.
While the Blues were enduring that loss, Hull City had their feet up, basking in the afterglow of Saturday’s hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Norwich.
As Steve Bruce and Manuel Pellegrini prepare for this Saturday’s early kick-off, only the most ardent of Tigers’ fans would suggest they could claim three points at the Etihad…and yet why not?
Allan McGregor has started the new campaign in outstanding form, and Bruce possesses both the experience and the youthful exuberance to make a fist of both Saturday’s game and their league campaign as a whole.
That said, City will be fuming after their defeat to Cardiff, and Pellegrini will know consecutive losses so early in his tenure is unfathomable.
With such strength in depth at the Etihad, if players don’t perform there are plenty who will. But I expect City to stick with the majority of the side that lost to the Bluebirds, including the much-maligned Joe Hart.
The Blues’ defensive woes should be lessened with the return of Matija Nastasic. While Alvaro Negredo will be hoping to make the starting line-up ahead of Edin Dzeko, although he may have to wait a little longer before he does so.
Hull’s squad depth is nowhere near that of their opponents, and aside from the suspended Yannick Sagbo, Bruce is unlikely to tinker with a side that performed so admirably against Norwich.
Here is how I expect both teams to line up on Saturday:
Do you agree with the sides above? If not, who do you think will play on Saturday?
