On this day: Berbatov saga, Walcott agreement and Willian bid

On the 29th August 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Manchester United, Arsenal, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 29th August 2013, but a year earlier

What were the main transfer tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 29th August 2012…

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov looked all set to seal move to Italian outfit Fiorentina. The Bulgarian had a £4 million deal all lined up with the Florence outfit - and even flew out to the city in order to thrash out the final details of a move.

But Juventus hijacked the deal and he instead looked set to join the Turin outfit.

But upon hearing of interest from former manager Martin Jol at Fulham he turned round and went back to England - completing a deal two days later.

Wal-not going anywhere

Arsene Wenger reportedly agreed a temporary gentlemen’s agreement with Theo Walcott over his long-term future at the club.

Walcott’s contract was expiring at the end of the season and teams around Europe were lurking for his signature.

In the end Walcott stayed true to his word, and signed a new deal in January.

Get the Shak out of here

Tottenham tied up a deal for Fulham midfielder Mousa Dembele after meeting his £15 million release clause.

But they were not so fortunate with a move for Willian. The Brazilian was the subject of an £11.9 million bid which was quickly rebuffed.

When you consider that just a year later Chelsea spent over £30 million to get the effervescent forward in at Stamford Bridge - you can understand why a bid fell on deaf ears.
