Everton latest: Featuring Baines future and 'no weakness' Barkley

Baines Penalty

Latest news and gossip from Goodison Park.

Everton overcame Stevenage in the League Cup second round yesterday - but they did not make it easy on themselves.

They were taking to extra time by the League One outfit at Goodison Park - after going 1-0 down to a Luke Freeman goal.

A goal from Gerard Deulofeu and an extra time strike from Marouane Fellaini earned The Toffees a 2-1 victory AET.

Leighton Baines has reportedly told Everton that he wants to leave and reunite with David Moyes at Manchester United.

The England international has now been the subject of three failed bids from Old Trafford but Roberto Martinez and Bill Kenwright are insistent of keeping hold of one of their star players this summer.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has again been expressing his belief that the transfer window should end before the start of the season.

It comes as he grows increasingly frustrated at the pursuit of both Baines and Fellaini while the season is in progress.

Meanwhile Martinez has himself distanced himself from any pursuit of another Wigan Athletic player in the form of James McCarthy. The Irish international has been increasingly linked with a move to Goodison Park - but as yet nothing concrete has emerged.

Now Martinez has exclaimed that there has not been a bid lodged for the player.

Everton are reportedly in a race with Aston Villa for the signature of Tom Ince from Blackpool. Both clubs are hoping to add the England under-21 international to their fold before the transfer window closes next Monday.

Everton are celebrating the inclusion of youngster Ross Barkley in the senior England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The youngster has been in exceptional pre-season form and carried that level of performance into the new season - and Martinez has expressed his desire that he could become to England what Michael Ballack was to Germany throughout his career.

Everton will be redesigning the clubs crest for next season. The most recent incarnation was widely criticised by the clubs fans - and a new badge will be designed with the full input of fans for the start of the 2014-15 season.
