Did Wayne Rooney get the reception he deserved against Chelsea?
Not what a lot of United fans, myself included, expected what happened on Monday night.
Wayne Rooney being cheered by the fans of both teams. United fans obviously glad to see him back and Chelsea fans trying to suggest he should sign for them.
I must admit it does seem that Fergie is now "out of sight, out of mind".
Would the fans have reacted this way had he still been manager? Would Fergie have selected Rooney?
The chances are we'll never know. It was good, however, to see Rooney back in the shirt and giving total commitment to the cause.
Hopefully, he will now settle down and realise where he is.
He cannot go anywhere better and maybe Monday night has helped him to realise that fact.
I still have my doubts about the longevity of the good feelings towards Rooney.
Although he has been very quiet and doesn't appear to have agitated publicly at least for a move, as the old saying goes, there's no smoke without fire.
Thankfully, this time, he shouldn't have to apologise to the fans or put up with a vigil outside his house as he's done nothing wrong.
What he has to do again, unfortunately, is prove that he wants to play for United.
Publicly stating that he doesn't want to go to either Chelsea or Arsenal would go a long way towards achieving this.
