With transfer deadline day drawing ever closer, Manchester United’s summer business will either be swift or non-existent.
According to reports, Marouane Fellaini remains a priority for the champions, with the Manchester Evening News claiming David Moyes faces a race against time to secure the Belgian. If that is the case, it is his own fault, because a bid of £23million last month would have secured the midfielder and saved a considerable amount of time and effort.
Moyes could also be on the verge of the shocking but frankly inexplicable signing of Chelsea’s David Luiz. Should they wish to keep Wayne Rooney away from the Blues, surely they cannot expect Jose Mourinho to be more forthcoming in the sale of any of his players.
And yet the Mirror claims United have been working on a £30million deal for the Brazilian defender for weeks, believing he will not be in Mourinho’s first-team plans this season. That the Portuguese has already rejected a bigger offer from Barcelona for the player appears not to matter and has been conveniently omitted from the story.
And finally, United fans will hope nothing comes from the latest Twitter trend.
Borussia Dortmund fans have started a campaign to “free” Shinji Kagawa from the Manchester United bench.
With #freeshinji now trending worldwide, Moyes may have some thinking to do. There is no doubt the Japanese playmaker is one of United’s most creative players, if only he could show it.
