Chelsea and Mourinho try to steal second Tottenham Target

FC Porto Trophy Celebration

Following their late swoop for Willian, Chelsea have again gone in to the market for another Tottenham transfer target, Christian Atsu.

Why is it that when it comes to the relationship between Chelsea and Tottenham, it’s the Blues that look like the bitter, revengeful ex whilst Spurs try to be the quiet, dignified one, which ultimately ends up getting hurt?

Hot on the heels of Chelsea poaching Willian after his move to Tottenham looked a done deal, Jose Mourinho seems to be at it again as yet another of the North London club’s targets, Christian Atsu looks to be heading to Stamford Bridge.

The 21 year-old winger from Porto has been watched closely by Andre Villas-Boas over the summer and just when it looked like he might make a move to White Hart Lane, Chelsea seem to have scuppered his plans.

Jose Mourinho is thought to be keen to land the Ghanaian International before the end of the transfer window, and as the player is entering the final year of his contract with the Portuguese team, it looks like a fee of around £3.5m will be enough to close the deal.

Porto have tried unsuccessfully to extend Atsu's contract but are now resigned to the fact that they may have to sell the player rather than seen the player leave in January under the Bosman ruling.

Atsu who mainly operates on the left, and has made 16 appearances for the national team as well as scoring three goals, is seen as a real talent for the future, his good sense of balance along with his lightening pace means that he could shine in the Premier League, sadly for Spurs however they may have fallen at the final hurdle once again.
