Tottenham Hotspur latest: Hulk a no go while Lamela hunt continues

With the closure of the summer transfer window less than one week away, the Gareth Bale situation continues to seem inconclusive. A variety of reports indicate the apparent wantaway star is either on the verge of a hundred million euro transfer away from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid, or that Manchester United boss David Moyes is readying a late attempt to snare the Welshman away from Carlo Ancelotti's grasp.

Whilst Spurs are not banking on the funds raised from the Bale sale, the record-breaking figure would help in their pursuit of high profile reinforcements, however, one big name who has been ruled out is strong forward Hulk. Zenit St Petersburg have shut down the speculation linking the player with a Andre Villas-Boas reunion but, according to the Daily Star, the player's short-term fitness remains ambiguous anyway.

Tottenham may have missed out on key Brazilian Willian, but there is an even greater talent potentially available in Erik Lamela and ITV break down just how important the AS Roma winger could be for the North London club.

Considering how much air-time and column inches any transfer speculation receives during the summer, it seems unthinkable that certain deals go under the radar. That is precisely what has happened with Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches, who has all but signed for the Lilywhites, according to this report. The same paper link Spurs with Arda Turan, a player on the wishlist at Arsenal and Liverpool.

Prodigiously talented winger Andros Townsend, dynamic full back Kyle Walker and prolific hotshot Jermain Defoe are three Tottenham players who will be reporting for international duty next month as they have all been called up to the Lions squad by Roy Hodgson.

New Under 21 gaffer Gareth Southgate, meanwhile, has recruited Harry Kane, Zeki Fryers and Tom Carroll for his selection.
