The rumour mill has been spinning into overdrive regarding Arsenal and potential arrivals from Real Madrid. But don't expect any to happen.
With time running out for Arsenal to sign new players, rumours linking those coming inwards have only become more extravagant.
Over the last week, three Real Madrid players have been linked with arriving at the Emirates, to a combined cost of almost £110 million.
But don't be surprised if none of the trio actually sign for the Gunners. Here's our assessment of the three rumours...
Benzema was the first name linked with Arsenal last week, with the Gunners said to be offering £40 million. However it is a stretch to imagine the Frenchman leaving, now he is finally the focal point in attack with Gonzalo Higuain sold. At Arsenal he would face more competition via Olivier Giroud than he would currently at Madrid. The Frenchman has scored two in two games in La Liga so far, and says he is thrilled at having compatriot Zinedine Zidane joining the coaching staff. In fact he has repeatedly stated that he is keen to stay at the Bernabeu, and just last week his agent hinted he was keen to sign a new deal at the club, and was unequivocal in his stance. Karim Djaziri told the French press: "I assure you Karim will not go to Arsenal. There has never been any discussions and no contact has been established."
Angel di Maria
Along with their pursuit of Benzema, Arsenal were linked with a move for Di Maria and over the weekend it was claimed that an offer of £30 million was being submitted to Real. The Argentine is a talented winger who would be a quality addition to any squad, but his wages are thought to be one reason Arsenal may not see through their interest. There is every chance Real would accept such a huge offer for Di Maria, but so far the winger has been clear that he too intends on staying. He has been linked with PSG, Manchester United and Tottenham this summer, but just two weeks ago he had this to say: "There have been so many rumors, but I have a contract until 2018 with Real Madrid and the rest (will be) in Spain without a doubt."
Perhaps the most extravagant of the lot, on Monday it was claimed by both The Telegraph and The Sun that Arsenal are in for Mesut Ozil in a £38 million deal. The German playmaker is said to be unhappy at Madrid, after being shunted to the wing to accommodate new signing Isco, and the potential arrival of Gareth Bale would only make competition more competitive. His agent is claimed to be hawking him round Europe, with Manchester United too linked. However Arsenal may have to adjust their formation to fit Ozil in, and the German has yet to comment publicly on his future. He has a long-term contract at Madrid, with a large salary - with reports claiming he wants his next club to better the deal he currently has. For reasons financial and sporting, this is one deal which just seems a bit far-fetched, to see him arriving at Arsenal within the next week.
What do you think? Will any of these three sign for Arsenal?
