Liverpool injury nightmare - Kolo Toure stretchered off and could miss United game

Anfield Pitch

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure could miss the clash with Manchester United at the weekend.

Liverpool's League Cup match with Notts County did not go exactly to plan, with the Reds being forced to extra time by the League One side.

The night then took another unfortunate twist for Liverpool, with defender Kolo Toure taken off with an injury.

The centre-back was stretchered off in extra-time, with a suspected groin injury, before Liverpool ran as out 4-2 winners.

Liverpool had made all three substitutions, and had to play on the rest of the match with 10 men.

The timing is not good for manager Brendan Rodgers, with Manchester United due to visit Anfield at the weekend.

With Sebastian Coates ruled out for next few months, it means just three central defenders will likely be available for the manager to choose from.

Groin injuries can take weeks to recover from, with Toure's yet to be assessed fully.

Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel will no doubt start the game, with just Andre Wisdom as cover, a defender Rodgers admitted last week he wanted to loan out.

Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge (2), and Jordan Henderson scored Liverpool's goals.

How much of a blow is the injury to Liverpool?
