Chelsea transfer news: Mata back to Spain? Blues to make Eto'o huge offer

A round up of the latest transfer stories connected to Chelsea.

La Liga side Atletico Madrid are reportedly trying to do a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata on loan.

The Spaniard has been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge throughout the summer despite Jose Mourinho’s insistence that the player won’t be sold.

Mata could be tempted by the prospect of regular first team football, as he faces a season of competing against several top class midfielders at Chelsea for a restricted number of first team places.

The Metro has reported that Chelsea will try and complete a deal for Anzhi Makhachkala forward Samuel Eto’o, offering him a one-year deal.

The contract is reportedly going to be worth around £6 million which would allow the striker to retain his status as one of the best paid players in the game.

Chelsea seem to have been focusing on Eto’o in preparation of failure to sign Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney before the end of the transfer window.

The latest reports suggest that Chelsea will have one more go at trying to sign Rooney before next Monday’s transfer deadline day.

The Blues have already seen two offers, £20 million and £25 million, turned down for the forward suggesting it would take a much larger offer to force this deal through.

United have insisted that Rooney will not be sold despite his apparent willingness to be used as a primary striker, which is a role that Chelsea could offer him.
