9. 1985 - The controversial athlete, Zola Budd, breakes the world 5,000m record

10. 1986 - Jennifer Levin is found strangled in New York City's Central Park. The case was subsequently called the 'preppie murder'

11. 1994 - A man is given the world's first battery-operated 'bionic' heart in a pioneering operation in Britain
