On this day: Modric fee agreed, Sahin finalised and Torres 'immense'

Fernando Torres May 2012

On the 25th August 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 25th August 2013, but a year earlier

What were the main transfer tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 25th August 2012.

Luka who it was last year?

A year ago today and Tottenham Hotspur had agreed a deal with Real Madrid for their star player to leave the club. Luka Modric had been linked with a move to the Spanish capital all summer - and on this day it was reported a deal, worth £33 million, was confirmed for the Croatian.

The deal was supposed to see Willian arrive at the club, but a year and a stint at Anzhi later; the Brazilian has just rejected Spurs again.

While Madrid are once again on the verge of securing a Tottenham player.

Thank God that is over

It was finally over, one of the most protracted and controversial transfers of the summer had finally been completed - Liverpool announced on their official website the signing of Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid on loan for the season.

It came just days after he posed in an Arsenal shirt, but that deal collapsed - and in the end Sahin must of wished it hadn’t.

He ended up thanking god when he got away from Brendan Rodgers in January.

Something in the air…?

Fernando Torres was being praised for a performance at Chelsea.

The Spaniard scored one of the goals in a 2-0 victory against Newcastle United and led the line superbly, in a performance that would hopefully spell the start of a better time of it at Stamford Bridge for the £50 million man.

Has he?
