If the Telegraph is to be believed, Chelsea have given up in their pursuit to sign Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, instead agreeing a deal to bring Samuel Eto’o to Stamford Bridge.
A deal for the Cameroon striker is said to have been finalised during negotiations to sign his Anzhi Makhachkala teammate Willian.
The story claims Jose Mourinho will not announce Eto’o’s arrival until after tomorrow’s game at Old Trafford, in the hope the continued rumours surrounding Rooney unsettle United.
Then again, you could believe the Mirror, that claims Chelsea will return for Rooney with that oft-mooted £40million bid. They even have a quote from Mourinho to back it up.
“Let’s see. We make the bid and they say no again, what do we lose? One email?”
Either way, it appears things will become a lot clearer following tomorrow’s game.
As we reported early this morning, Cristiano Ronaldo may be set for a return to United, with the Guardian claiming the Portuguese is keen on a move back to Old Trafford next summer.
While United fans had been hoping Gareth Bale’s arrival at the Bernabeu would lead to a swifter reunion between Ronaldo and his former club, it seems they will have to wait a little longer for fantasy to become reality.
And finally, Spanish newspaper El Confidencial claims Mesut Ozil has been offered to United, but that David Moyes is not keen on the Real Madrid midfielder.
The report states that Ozil wishes to leave Madrid because of the club’s refusal to pay him €7million-a-year in wages.
But it appears Moyes has other targets in mind with the report stating, “Real Madrid officials have contacted Old Trafford to know their intentions with respect to the German and United have denied any interest in the player.”
