Long-term Liverpool target Tiago Ilori is back in the headlines, with Portuguese newspaper A Bola picking up on recent reports in England and putting its own spin on them.
The Sporting Lisbon defender was the subject of a failed bid from the Reds earlier this summer, and the most recent claims are that an offer of €7million could be enough to sign the 20-year-old.
A Bola claims Sporting are not prepared to do business for anything less than that fee, and that the injury to Sebastian Coates could force Brendan Rodgers into a move before the transfer window closes.
Over in London, the club who once did all they could to sign Luis Suarez are suddenly hoping he moves to Real Madrid. According to the Guardian, that is the current stance of Arsenal, as they wait to see if Karim Benzema will be available this summer.
That will only be the case if Suarez moves to the Bernabeu, which surely won’t happen given Rodgers’ statements to the contrary thus far, and a stance that has seen the Uruguayan eat humble pie (at least publicly).
“You’ve certainly tried to go out with a girl and find she has chosen someone else,” Wenger said in regards to his transfer pursuits.
It was believed those comments were about Suarez opting for Real. But should Liverpool ultimately sell, perhaps they should ask for Benzema in exchange. Not that it would go down too well at the Emirates…
