Chelsea are on the verge of finalising a deal for Brazilian forward Willian. The Anzhi Makhachkala star had been set to join Tottenham Hotspur in a £30 million switch from the troubled Russian club. He even passed a medical at White Hart Lane, but Jose Mourinho has swooped in to complete the deal
His Work Permit application will be concluded next week. It is believed that Roman Abramovich was key to the process, using links with Anzhi owner Suleyman Kerimov to complete the deal.
Mourinho was visibly cheery about the deal in his press conference yesterday, stating:
‘’The best thing to do is do the medical in secret.’’
Chelsea are however still in the running for a striker, specifically Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. But if the England international really is not for sale at Old Trafford then the club have a ‘plan B’ lined up in Colombian striker Jackson Martinez.
The Porto talisman has been linked with a move to Napoli already this summer, and it is clear he is open to the idea of leaving the Portuguese club this summer.
He scored a whopping 29 goals in 38 appearances last term and has a release clause of over £30 million in his current deal.
Anzhi Makhachkala forward Samuel Eto’o, who is said to be another striking alternative for Mourinho, could be set to snub a return to mainland Europe with a switch to Qatari football.
According to many reports this morning and yesterday evening the Cameroonian striker could be convinced by massive wages and a three-year deal at Al-Gharafa - which would team him up with the likes of Lisandro Lopez and Nene as well as manager Zico.
