Arsene Wenger is confident that he can make the signings his side needs before the transfer window.
He was speaking ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Fulham on Saturday. He said: ‘I’m confident I’ll make the signings I need, we have funds available.’
This will be something that the Arsenal fans are used to hearing but now they want some action as they have gone all summer without a signing of any significance, and there are just days to go.
Although there have been no signings Wenger stressed that they hadn’t been idle in the market and they had been active earlier in the summer.
He said: ‘I would rather have had the squad in place at the start of the season; you’d be surprised how early we acted in the market. Sometimes it doesn’t come off. ‘
With links being made to Real Madrid players Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria hopes are being increased in among the fan base that the promises made about increased financial firepower will finally be realised.
There was an interesting comment made about the importance of Champions League football when it comes to attracted big name players.
Wenger said: ‘Every player’s first question is ‘do you play in the Champions League or not? That is the first requirement.’
This comment suggests that Arsenal had to wait until Champions League football was secured before targeting players they need.
It hasn’t stopped other clubs without Champions League football bringing in players; I’m sure Arsenal fans are hoping that the transfer floodgates have now opened.
