The super signing of the summer netted his first goal for his new employers.
Barcelona's sole signing of the summer, Neymar, a 21-year-old bought from Santos for £48m, opened his account during the club's midweek trip to the Vicente Calderon in order to take on Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup.
Neymar came off the bench to level the scoreline to one apiece (see video below), which delighted his team-mates, in particular veteran passer Xavi, who is quoted by Goal to have said that: 'Neymar's goal was pretty important. It will give him confidence.'
Brazil international Neymar, who has returned 24 goals from 39 appearances for the Samba Stars added: 'I’m very pleased that I scored the tying goal. It was a difficult match against quality players. Atletico are a strong side, and they showed that again in this match. It’s a good result and now we have to do the job at home.'
He added: 'I don’t score many goals with my head so I value them a lot.'
Neymar was a late addition in Barcelona's 7-0 thrashing of Levante earlier in the month and came off the bench again versus Atletico, however, with the withdrawal of Lionel Messi at half-time, Neymar may be hoping to make his first competitive start for his new side when they take on Malaga at the weekend.
