Could a bid for Mesut Ozil be just around the corner?
So far David Moyes has found it hard to lure the players he wants to Old Trafford this summer, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara springing to mind as two players he missed out on recently.
But Moyes remains confident he will be able to complete some needed transfers before the end of the Transfer Window:
"I'm confident we will have players in. We are involved in several players we are looking at and that will continue. Will we get them before the deadline? I hope so, but we are working very hard to do so."
One area in which the club is said to need additions is in the creative midfield department - hence the interest in Thiago and Cesc.
But one of the more recent names mentioned has been German international Mesut Ozil of Real Madrid.
Real are now generally believed to have agreed a deal to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur for what will certainly be an astronomical figure - with many believing the announcement will be made before the weekend.
With the arrival of Isco from Malaga this season, Ozil has now found himself dangerously close to the fringes at the Santiago Bernabeu.
For an international player in a World Cup year this is simply not suitable - especially when Germany have so many popular options in the same area of the pitch.
With that being said Ozil was always likely to be the subject of interest, and according to Josep Pedrerol of Spanish TV show Punto Pelota he could be available:
"We have already reported that in the next ten days Real Madrid will receive a range of 45 to 50 million [Euros] for a major player. The offer is now coming Thursday or Friday. It is a top player who wants to be there at the World Cup. He thinks that his position is in danger due to the transfer of Bale and that he secures his World Cup participation with his move.’’
While he did not mention the name of the player concerned, German publication Bild believe that Ozil is the player in question - by process of elimination.
And with an offer reportedly expected by the end of the week, could it be Manchester United going back in for the player who turned down the chance to join the club in 2010.
What do you make of the reports? Could Ozil be on his way to Manchester?
