Andy Murray has today learned that he will face Michael Llodra in his US Open first round match and is seeded to meet Novak Djokovic in the last 4.

Following today's draw, Britain's Andy Murray will begin the defence of his US Open title against Michael Llodra of France.

Murray, the world number 3 who is also seeded third for the tournament at Flushing Meadows in New York, will start his campaign against the world number 49.

Regaining the crown that he won twelve months ago could be increasingly difficult however, with the Scotsman also in the same half of the draw as world number one Novak Djokovic.

Llodra, 33, has been beaten by the 26-year-old Scot in all three previous meetings, including the last time the they clashed in the last 32 stage of the 2012 Australian open.

On that occasion, Murray dispatched of the left-hander, a prolific serve-volleyer, in straight sets.

Should the reigning champion progress deep into the tournament he could meet Tomas Berdych in the quarter-final, the Czech beat Murray just last week in the Cincinnati Open.

Progression to the semi-finals will mean that he is likely to meet Djokovic, who he beat in both the final of the 2012 US Open and at Wimbledon earlier this summer, and the winner of that clash could meet Rafael Nadal in the final.
