How close is Tottenham star Gareth Bale to moving to Real Madrid?
Spurs stepped up their pursuit of playmakers Willian and Erik Lamela this week, heightening suggestions Real Madrid will seal a deal for Gareth Bale.
At present any switch is officially off the table, but the transfer activity at Tottenham is making many wonder if the 'Bale money' is simply being spent in advance.
Earlier this evening respected Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claimed a deal between Spurs and Madrid was imminent, so confident in fact that he claimed the transfer could be agreed 'in hours.'
The Bale deal will confirmed in the next few hours— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) August 21, 2013
He then appeared to re-think this statement, later tweeting that actually, it may not be so fast.
The Bale deal could be confirm before tomorrow night or on Friday (Real wouldn't want to overshadow Raul homage at the Bernabeu tomorrow)— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) August 21, 2013
Madrid legend Raul in fact stated just yesterday that the prices being quoted for Bale were 'excessive', so announcing the switch ahead of his return to the Bernabeu for a friendly game on Thursday evening against Qatari side Al Sadd, would certainly overshadow it.
We suspect Balague has been a tad over-eager, and a deal will not be announced, even this week - especially with the Spurs squad currently in Tblisi for a Europa League game.
The last thing they want to do is overshadow that and distract their players from an important match. But perhaps, being far away out of England when such a deal is announced, really is the best place for them to be.
What do you make of the claims?
