Who's the real winner if Baines moves to Manchester United?

With the World Cup on the heels of this season, would a risk move jeopardising the chances of both Leighton Baines and Patrice Evra?

I'm sure that there are many Manchester United fans out there that would welcome the signing of Leighton Baines, and I'm also sure that there are a few players who would welcome the move too but maybe not the ones you think.

With just less than a year until the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, this season will be one that makes of breaks the chances of those wishing to represent their national teams in the tournament, and for the likes of Gael Clichy and Ashley Cole the prospect of having their rivals playing at the sam e club side would be a huge boost to their chances.

Competition in any sport is healthy and competition within a squad of Premier League players may also be seen as a huge positive in terms of cover and planning for the future, but with a rival in the position of left back, the team might thrive yet the players individual aspirations may not.

Evra has been an ever-present at Old Trafford for a number of years now, making over 230 appearances for the club, he has also captained the squad in a career which has seen him win the Champions League and five Premier League titles amongst others.

Baines on the other hand has been a revelation with Everton, and the man Moyes signed from Wigan Athletic has flourished into a world class talent, appearing more than 200 times for the Toffees, not to mention making 18 England appearances, and he is seen as the natural successor to Ashley Cole when he retires.

Indeed it is on the international stage where Evra may be hit harder by the signing of Baines, the Frenchman is already first choice for his nation yet is under increasing pressure from Clichy, where as the Englishman is trying to overhaul Cole, the 103-capped Chelsea defender.

Whatever happens however, it is very refreshing to have a problem where by England have too many players on the left, an area in which they have struggled historically, I think there is room for both to feature, but for France it would be harder to justify both.

Who do you think should go and would Baines jeopardise his chance if he were to join the Red Devils?

Let us know your thoughts below.
