Manchester United’s stars, including Wayne Rooney, joined boss David Moyes for a ‘party’ at a restaurant in Manchester, understood to have been designed to foster ‘team bonding’.
United veteran Rio Ferdinand claims he is more ‘excited’ about facing Liverpool than Chelsea in the next few weeks.
“We have our closest rivals, Liverpool and Manchester City, and those game are hyped up the most and you maybe take the most pleasure from winning against them,” explained Ferdinand.
In transfer news, United are ‘planning’ an improved offer for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini. According to The Mirror, David Moyes is prepared to up the club’s bid for his former stars at Everton to £35 million after the Toffees rejected an approached for the pair of £28 million.
However, new Everton boss Roberto Martinez insisted United are ‘wasting their time’ in their pursuit of the pair after the Merseyside club described their initial £28 million bid as ‘derisory and insulting’.
Turkish outfit Besiktas are hoping to agree a season-long loan for Alexander Buttner, after Portuguese giants Benfica pulled out for the highly rated understudy left-back.
This would also hint that a new arrival may be imminent in his preferred position, incidentally, as United continue their pursuit of left-back Leighton Baines.
Arsenal are set for a ‘collision course’ with United over Marouane Fellaini, according to The Express.
The same source also claims United have registered ‘interest’ in Luke Shaw, Southampton’s highly rated young left back.
Meanwhile, Chelsea and United are still chasing Samuel Eto’o following the striker being put on the transfer list at Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala. Both the Blues and the Red Devils are understood to be set for ‘talks’ with the Cameroon striker.
However, United could face more competition to sign Eto’o as Inter Milan enter the race for their former star striker.
United youngster Adnan Januzaj is expected to sign a five-year deal to keep him at Old Trafford. The 18-year-old Belgian has attracted interest from Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, according to reports, but he is now set to stay on at United.
Brazilian ‘wonderkid’ 16-year-old Gabriel Fernando has ‘snubbed’ Manchester City in favour of signing for United. The youngster turned down a scholarship offer from City and is expected to join the Red Devils imminently against their archrivals’ wishes.
