Tottenham manager Andre Villas Boas has said that his club’s summer spending spree isn’t over after already breaking the club’s transfer record twice.

The Daily Mirror reports that AVB is ready to go head-to-head with Liverpool over trying to bring Willian to the Premier League.

“I think we have a very good squad and we have obviously had some activity in the market but we are looking further.”

On Willian the Spurs boss said: “He is a player that I appreciate, but a player that belongs to Anzhi and I will respect them.”

The Daily Express said that no formal bid for the Brazilian attacker had yet been made – along with summer target Radamel Falcao dismissing speculation that he could be on his way out of Monaco only a few months are signing for them, which would put Spurs along with Chelsea and Manchester City on alert.

Centre-back Jan Vertonghen has said the side must discover a killer instinct if they are to succeed as they bid to return to the Champions League.

Following their 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday, the defender said: “We were very dominant but we kept them alive and they had a big opportunity in the 89th minute.

“We should have more of a killer instinct. If we did we could have scored two or three more.”

Vertonghen also said he can’t wait for the transfer window to shut so all speculation can be put to bed, notably in the case of Gareth Bale.

“Hopefully the transfer window can shut soon and we can move forward with the squad.

“It’s always strange when your team changes after just a few games, so everyone hopes it stays – together.”

Midfielder Moussa Dembele believes Spurs have what it takes to qualify for the Champions League and challenge further towards the top end of the table this season.

He said: “We had quite a good season last year but at the end we didn’t make what we aimed for.

“But this year we have learned from this and we can’t make the same mistakes again.”
