A round up of the latest news stories and transfer rumours about Liverpool.
Liverpool have completed a deal to sign Aly Cissokho on loan from Valencia for the coming season but may not be as successful in their attempts to sign Willian from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala. Latest reports suggest spurs are winning the race for the Brazilian but Liverpool still have time to react.
In other transfer news, the Daily Star has reported that Liverpool will complete a deal for Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos with his current side, FC Schalke, seemingly admitting defeat in their hopes of keeping him.
Liverpool are also closing in on the £6 million capture of highly rated Derby County youngster Will Hughes. Hughes is one of the best young prospects in English football and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to be keen in signing him ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
In further good news on the transfer front, Barcelona seem to have given up on the chance of signing Daniel Agger after the Danish centre back pledged his future to the club.
“Barcelona are obviously a big club, but I have never thought about leaving Liverpool, unless they want to sell,” he told Danish source Bold.
Agger has also suggested that he doesn’t care if Liverpool don’t make the top four by the end of this season, subsequently missing out on the Champions League, he has no intention of leaving.
In a harder to judge story, Liverpool remain firmly connected to Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan. The player’s agent has confirmed that Liverpool are one of the sides looking at the player but the Spanish side are set to demand his full €24 million buy-out clause for any deal to happen.
Away from the transfer market, midfielder Jordan Henderson has backed new goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to have a similar impact at Anfield to Pepe Reina, who has joined Napoli on loan for this season.
“He will just get stronger and stronger, he will be fantastic for Liverpool Football Club. To save the penalty and then the follow-up as well was magnificent. It was a big moment and it will do him the world of good,” said Henderson.
Former Liverpool star John Aldridge has praised another star, this time Daniel Sturridge, and has tipped the striker to win the Premier League’s golden boot by the end of the season. Sturridge bagged the winner in that win over Stoke last Saturday lunchtime.
Aldridge has also had his say on striker Luis Suarez, suggesting the striker needs to say sorry to Liverpool fans for the way he has acted this summer.
“Before Suarez makes his comeback from suspension he needs to go on LFC TV or speak to the fans via the ECHO and say sorry to them for the way he has treated the club,” he wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
