All the news from White Hart Lane over the weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur have won their opening game of the season against Crystal Palace. It was not what you would call an excellent performance, but Spurs were indeed good value for their win. Their goal came courtesy of record signing Roberto Soldado. He comfortably slotted home a penalty after Dean Moxey had handled in the box.
Spurs rode their luck late on as they did not add a second, but in the end claimed a hard though victory.
But while that game was going on, it appears that one of the clubs transfer targets has decided to move elsewhere. Reports in Italy suggest that the Italian international Pablo Osvaldo has agreed to join Southampton this summer. A deal worth £15.35 million could be announced as early as tomorrow.
Tottenham fans have accused the club of encouraging ticket touts. It comes as the club agree a deal with ‘StubHub’ which could see seats sold for as much as £1,000.
Today, the lead story in Gareth Bale saga is the apparent disillusionment Bale has with reports he is not talking to anyone at the club regarding his future. It is said that the Welshman believes he has been keeping the club informed and speaking to Andre Villas-Boas every day. It is also revealed today that Bale will be on £10m, after tax, in the Spanish capital.
One player being targeted by Tottenham is Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao. The Portuguese had a tumultuous season at The Bernabeu in 2012-13 and is now keen to leave, after falling foul of the Madridista.
Carlo Ancelotti has now confirmed Coentrao wants to leave, and that they would be willing to consider his sale. The former Chelsea boss would like to see the left-back stay at the club, but it is believed he could be used as a makeweight in any Bale deal.
Spurs are looking for left-back options, with Benoit Assou-Ekotto out of favour with AVB.
