I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 18th August 2013, but a year earlier.
What were the main transfer tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 18th August 2012.
Alex Song edged closer to a Barcelona switch. The Cameroonian had been linked with the Catalan giants for a number of days now, and it was this day that Arsenal agreed terms with Barca for the sale.
While Arsenal were drawing 0-0 with Sunderland on the opening day of the season representatives from all parties thrashed out a deal - and Song was gone just two days later.
They could have done with him yesterday.
Fergie source doesn’t taste quite right
According to the Daily Mail, they seemed to know something nobody else did about Sir Alex Ferguson.
They claimed the Manchester United boss would quit in two years time - happy he had built a team around Wayne Rooney that would thrive without him.
Just a year later and Fergie has already gone, and Rooney is as miserable as a dragon chewing Wrigleys.
What a Messi!
It was blamed on a communication breakdown, but a year ago it was revealed that Manchester City once made a £30m ‘bid’ for Barcelona star Lionel Messi. Of course City never really believed they could snap up potentially the world’s greatest ever footballer for such a pitiful price-tag - in fact the bid was a mistake.
It occurred on the day Sheikh Mansour completed his massive takeover of the club - and then chief executive detailed the events thusly:
“He (an executive) made a comment like ‘it’s all getting messy. Via the telephones and other communication lines, this somehow translated into ‘get Messi.’ An offer was made for Lionel Messi of about £30million. Needless to say, it was rejected.”
