Manchester United transfer news: €55m swoop for Madrid duo and Fellaini latest

Ozil

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Manchester United, including Wayne Rooney, Marouane Fellaini, Kaka and Mesut Ozil.

He may not have been fully fit, but that didn’t stop Wayne Rooney playing a vital role in two of Manchester United’s goals yesterday having come on as a second-half substitute.

And yet his failure to celebrate with his teammates has prompted more stories about his future.

The Sunday Times claims Rooney still wishes to move to Chelsea this summer, and that Jose Mourinho will make one final bid in the region of £40million before the transfer window closes.

While the Mirror runs with the same idea...with a twist. They claim that if Chelsea are not successful in their pursuit of the England international they will turn their attention to Robert Lewandowski. Yes, the man who is destined for Bayern Munich next summer and does not wish to go anywhere else.

The Borussia Dortmund forward would be an outstanding addition to any squad, but were he available United themselves would surely have made their move by now and sent Rooney off to Stamford Bridge safe in the knowledge they had bagged one of Europe’s best strikers.

The Mail on Sunday takes a different view of the Rooney situation, claiming he has accepted he will be a United player next season.

That talkative fellow the “United source” has claimed the England striker has accepted where his future lies and is training hard to become an automatic choice once more.

As David Moyes continues his attempts to bring in reinforcements the Mirror claims he will offer £18million for his former player Marouane Fellaini in the coming week.

Considerably less than the Belgian’s former release-clause, the offer is unlikely to be met with anything other than disdain by the Everton hierarchy. Although Roberto Martinez only recently spoke of the need to sell unhappy players, so in this case it may depend how much Fellaini wants the move.

Then again, maybe United are ready to stun the football world with a huge and rather inexplicable offer for two of Real Madrid’s midfielders.

Mundo Deportivo is reporting that United are considering a €55million offer for Mesut Ozil and Kaka.

The report claims neither player wants to move, but that the arrival of Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu would push Ozil closer to the exit, while Real are already prepared to let Kaka go following their summer spending.

Why United would move for both players remains to be seen. And it is one of the stranger rumours in a summer full of them.
