Where is Liverpool and Tottenham playmaker target going?

Christian Eriksen playing for Denmark at Euro 2012

CSKA Moscow, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen ... these are the teams who can offer Christian Eriksen what he wants.

Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen has, quite literally, been linked with all the Premier League’s top teams - and more this summer.

Manchester City and United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United and, in particular, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have been linked with snapping up the Dane.

It has been made clear by the player that he would like to leave the Dutch outfit this summer - in order to play in a more competitive league than the Eredivisie.

Ajax are also set to let him leave, with his contract expiring in a years time, they are happy to sell him for a handsome margin this summer.

Spurs and Liverpool have been reported as the two favourites to sign him, and the player himself recently spoke glowingly of the Premier League. But according to his agent he will not be joining either English team.

Because Martin Schoots claims that the Dane will be signing for a team who are already, automatically, qualified for the Champions League:

‘’There has been contact with a club from Germany and one from Italy. He will only leave Ajax to join a team that are automatically qualified for the Champions League and fighting for the title every season.’’

If this statement proves to be correct, he will not be going to Spurs or Liverpool this summer.

But where will he go? Manchester City and Manchester United do not seem likely to be signing him and either do Chelsea - so it looks as if a move to England is now off the cards.

Germany is the more likely of destinations. The switch from Dutch to German football is a common pilgrimage, and the playing styles are very similar. Borussia Dortmund have previously been linked, but that interest dried up. It leaves Bayer Leverkusen as the only viable option.

When it comes to Italian sides, Juventus and AC Milan have been linked. Juve can offer the Champions League football and the title challenge.

Apart from that it is a case of teams outside of the ‘big leagues’ PSG were linked, but that died a death. He has also been linked with a Russian switch - with CSKA Moscow looking for an eventual Keisuke Honda replacement.

But unfortunately, it is growing increasingly unlikely that he will play in the Premier League … which is a shame, as he is an exceptional talent.

Where do you think Eriksen will end up?
