The transfer saga of the summer? Well Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez might just have something to say about that, but the Gareth Bale to Real Madrid rumours continue to lurk on.
Those rumours have not been helped by various circumstances surrounding the player, that seem to hint toward his impending exit. First there is his injury. While I am sure that nothing untoward is going on, the fact Bale will miss nearly every game before the transfer window shuts, apart from the one against Arsenal the day before, suggests to some that he is more in then out at White Hart Lane.
But as Spurs try desperately to keep attention on their opening fixture of the season against Crystal Palace this Saturday - yet another telling sign has come up from Spain.
Real Madrid announced their squad numbers yesterday, with plenty of new players in the team it was exciting to see just who would be assigned which numerical position in the squad.
Asier Illarramendi has been given the number 24 shirt, while returning full-back Dani Carvajal is given number 15. Of course youngsters coming into the first team also get new numbers. Jese Rodriguez has taken the number 20 previously worn by Gonzalo Higuain while Alvaro Morata has been boosted up the ranks, taking the number 21 vacated by Jose Callejon, who joins Higuain at Napoli.
It was expected that the vacated number 11 shirt, left behind after Ricardo Carvalho joined AS Monaco, would be handed to new signing Isco from Malaga.
But Isco has instead taken the number 23 jersey made famous by David Beckham at The Bernabeu - leaving the number 11 shirt vacant for the 2013-14 season.
Now you do not need to be a rocket scientist to figure out who that is being left for?
Will Bale be wearing 11 at The Lane or Bernabeu?
