Odds on Gareth Barry joining Everton are slashed massively

Odds have been slashed on a potential swap from Manchester City to Everton for Gareth Barry.

Gareth Barry’s time at Manchester City seems to be coming toward an end. His contract runs out next summer and has seen his first-team football chances diminished with the mega-money arrival of Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Barry was a controversial signing for Manchester City in 2009, when Aston Villa fans criticised him for originally claiming he wanted to leave Villa Park for Champions League football a year earlier.

Back then he tried desperately to force a move to Liverpool, which saw him in real trouble with his current clubs hierarchy and fans.

But according to the majority, Barry will get his move to Merseyside any day now, just not the Red side of Liverpool.

He has been strongly linked with a move to Napoli this summer, where Rafa Benitez would like to finally get his man - five years after his initial interest proved fruitless.

But according to the odds - Barry will be on his way to Everton this summer.

The England international has seen odds on a potential switch to Everton slashed over the past 24 hours - at the time of writing the odds were as low as 1/3.

In comparison the odds linking him with Napoli and Arsenal sit at 16/1, Aston Villa 25/1 and Tottenham 33/1 - making Everton the overwhelming favourites to snap him up this summer.

Now the odds are interesting because, in the papers, there has been very little coverage suggesting that this is a deal in the pipeline.

Could it work?

Yes, is the short answer. Barry may no longer be in favour at City or with England, he is still an extremely talented and versatile player, who will slot excellently into the Roberto Martinez philosophy.

So far it is nothing but odds based conjecture, but when odds are as low as that, attention has to be given to the possibility of a move.

Do you think Barry could be on his way to Goodison Park?
