Manchester United transfer news: Rooney interest to be dropped; Willian linked

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Manchester United, including Wayne Rooney, Samuel Eto’o, Marouane Fellaini and Sami Khedira.

The Daily Star reports that Chelsea are “just days away” from dropping their interest in Wayne Rooney.

Continuing the recent claims that Jose Mourinho is considering Samuel Eto’o as a viable alternative for the Manchester United striker, they report that the Cameroon international would be willing to take a pay-cut to reunite with his former Inter Milan boss.

David Moyes has so far stood firm in his claims that Rooney is going nowhere. Now all eyes will be on the United line-up tomorrow evening as fans wait to see if the player makes the new manager’s first competitive squad.

Roberto Martinez has warned Moyes that reported target Marouane Fellaini will not come cheap...if at all.

The Belgian’s release clause expired at the end of last month, and many stories have claimed he will now be available for less than the £23million previously written into his contract. But the Everton manager moved to quash those claims.

When you are in a strong position financially, you will never sell a player for less than the buy-out clause,” he said.

Martinez also believes United should be true to their word in claiming their last (failed) bid for Leighton Baines would also be their final one.

Another midfielder has been linked with a move to Old Trafford – if rather tenuously.

The Daily Express follow up reports in France that Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has been offered to PSG.

With that in mind, the names of United and Chelsea have also been thrown into the transfer tombola as potential destinations for the German midfielder.

But this one appears to be pure speculation, at least in so far as United’s interest.

And finally, Moyes is said to have made a late enquiry about signing Anzhi’s Brazilian midfielder Willian.

The 25-year-old was believed to be on the verge of a switch to Liverpool. But as United continue their search for new attacking players, they are now said to have registered their interest.
