Manchester United latest: Including Swansea team news and transfer rumours

Wayne Rooney Free Kick

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

David Moyes has a ‘selection headache’ over Wayne Rooney ahead of Manchester United’s opening Premier League fixture this weekend against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

The England number 10 is fit again and eligible for selection but speculation over Rooney’s future could influence the boss’ decision over whether to play him.

The Daily Mail reports that Rooney will likely be included on the bench for Saturday’s game at Swansea. The 27-year-old was involved in a first-team training session with the senior squad at their Carrington training facility today.

The BBC reports that Rooney has in fact travelled with the squad to Swansea this evening.

An official ManUtd.com preview ahead of the Red Devils’ trip to Swansea can he found here.

David Moyes admitted he was ‘struggling’ to make signings but remained confident of imminent new arrivals at Old Trafford.

“I am confident we will have players in,” Moyes said on Thursday.

“Things are moving along in the right direction.”

“Everybody wants things done quickly but you have to remember, I got the job on July 1. I have had five or six weeks now and three of them are on tour. Obviously we keep working towards getting things. But this could be a difficult window for me because the level I have been shopping in in the past is not the level Manchester United have been shopping in. That has to come into consideration,” he added.

In transfer news, reports today suggest that United could ‘swoop’ for Mesuit Ozil of Real Madrid.

The German attacking midfielder could be Moyes’ target as an alternative to Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas after negotiations broke down and the reports suggests Real Madrid have ‘offered’ Ozil to Unite for £40 million.

Other reports claim that United could enter the ‘race’ to sign Willian from Anzhi Mackachkala after the Russian side sacked manager former United coach Rene Muelentseen and placed the majority of their first-team stars on the transfer list.

At present, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool are understood to be interested in the 25-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder.

Finally, as the new season 2013/14 starts tomorrow here you can find a look back at the Premier League’s most memorable opening games and a history of fixtures between United and Swansea.
