Does Suarez actually care about the fans at Liverpool?

Distin And Suarez

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has told reporters whilst away on international duty with Uruguay that the 'passion of the people' has swayed him to stay at Anfield, despite his statements to the British press last week that he wanted to leave and felt betrayed.

It would appear from his recent comments this week that he has miraculously come around to the idea of staying at the Merseyside club where he signed a new contract to remain there until 2018 on last year.

Just last week he went public on his desire to play in the Champions League and revealed his dismay that the club would not honour their supposed promises on letting him leave if an offer came in from a qualified club.

Arsenal's audacious £40,000,001 bid, designed to trigger the 'release clause' that never was was met with strong resistance from Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and owner John W Henry who have both stated categorically that Luis Suarez is not for sale.

Suarez effectively embarrassed and showed a clear lack of respect, according to club legend Jamie Carragher, with his comments which I suspect were intended to assert more pressure on the club to sell him by making his position untenable.

He has also this week refused to apologize to the club or the fans which begs the question: does he really care about them? His behaviour to date would suggest he doesn't - not at all. His biting of Branislav Ivanovic was an embarrassment to the club, as was his previous racial abuse of Patrice Evra, not to mention the criticism he received for apparent 'simulation' and that's all just in the space of two years.

The club has a fantastic reputation - not just in England but across the globe - it's one of the most successful clubs in history. It is certainly rich in it's history and in it's fan base - there really are no fans like Liverpool's except perhaps Celtic fans. I can think of a club that is more united in its unequivocal support of the club, the team, the managers and the players.

Which is exactly why what Luis Suarez has behaved is unacceptable and, furthermore, unforgivable - he has completely thrown it all back in their face. He has disgraced himself which is nothing usual but he has also disgraced the fans. It's an embarrassment.

If Luis Suarez really cared about the people of Liverpool and their supporters around the world he would be trying to stay not go, first and foremost, and if he really cared about the club he would be trying to help them get back into the Champions League rather than trying to leave them in the lurch.
