As frustration grows amongst Arsenal fans due to their club’s lack of activity in the transfer market this summer, Arsene Wenger has said that there will be new signings before the end of the transfer window.
Arsenal are set to miss out on Luiz Gustavo after failing in bids for Gonzalo Higuain, Lars Bender and Luis Suarez, but Wenger is still confident there will be new faces at the Emirates come September.
"There are 18 days to go, so that is a long time in the transfer market and we will be active. I cannot certify what the number [of players coming in will be], but we will be active until the end, that is for sure,” he said.
However one player unlikely to coming to Arsenal in Swansea City attacker Michu, with Michael Laudrup saying that the Spaniard was not for sale this summer.
Laudrup said that Swansea would consider any offer for Michu, as they would not have enough time to find a replacement before the end of the transfer window.
Arsenal had been linked with the 27-year-old as a possible alternative to Luis Suarez, who now looks likely to stay at Liverpool due to their hard-line stance on his future.
Brendan Rodgers yesterday said that he would no longer discuss Suarez until the Uruguayan returned from his ten game suspension, of which the striker still has six matches to serve.
Suarez has sent out conflicting messages over the past week, first that he is ready to stay at Liverpool, and then a denial that he ever said that.
Arsenal will reportedly have to double their £6million bid if they want to sign Swansea City defender Ashley Williams, who has been a target for Wenger throughout the summer.
Swansea have been adamant that Williams will not be sold unless their valuation of the 28-year-old was met, and have apparently been angered by Arsenal’s low offer.
