Liverpool manager believes burgeoning forward will bag a load of goals.
Power, pace, quality and finishing ability are the four essential requirements an elite-level Premier League marksman must possess if they are to fire their way to the top of the scoring charts and, according to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, 23-year-old Englishman Daniel Sturridge has it all.
The developing striker has featured for a number of the country's most reputable teams including Manchester City, Chelsea and now for Liverpool, however, it is during the second half of last season that he began to fully realise his potential, returning 11 goals and five assists from 16 appearances in a Reds shirt.
Rodgers mused that even a three-quarters fit Sturridge is enough to equal the skill of the rest of the top forwards in the division. He told the club's official website that: 'He's not 100 per cent fit yet, but for me Daniel Sturridge is a player that even if he's 70 or 80 per cent fit, he'll be right up there as one of the top strikers.
'He's shown in particular over the last few weeks since re-joining the group that with his power, his pace, his quality and his finishing that I believe he can be up there.
;He needs numbers this year because that's important for him. He needs to score goals and create goals - if he does that, while working hard, I think England will have one of the top strikers in the Premier League.'
Sturridge struck twice in Liverpool's most recent pre-season friendly, a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United. The club begin their Premier League campaign on Saturday, August 17 when they host Stoke City at lunch-time.
