A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.
"I am Andre Schurrle," he told kicker. "And I don't compare myself to others. I have my own qualities and enough confidence to say I feel strong enough to come out on top here. It is a great challenge but I am delighted that I took this chance."
Jose Mourinho has said that David Luiz will not be sold this summer under any circumstances, despite rumours that the defender was open to a move to Barcelona. The 26-year-old is reportedly now the Spanish club’s top target as they aim to improve their defence, but Mourinho sees Luiz as key to his plans at Chelsea.
Mourinho also refused to rule out a move for Samuel Eto’o and said he was happy that the Cameroonian striker is keen to work with him again. Eto’o could be sold due to Anzhi Makhachkala’s financial turmoil, and the striker has suggested he would like to link up with Mourinho.
Another former player Mourinho could look to bring to Stamford Bridge is Sami Khedira, who is apparently concerned he might not get enough first team football at Real Madrid after they signed Asier Illarramendi this summer. Chelsea are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder, and Khedira might be available for around £15million.
Khedira might be brought in to replace John Obi Mikel, who is reportedly a target for Napoli, with Rafa Benitez looking at a loan deal with an option to buy for the Nigerian midfielder. Mikel has also been linked with Galatasaray this summer amid rumours Chelsea are open to selling the 26-year-old.
West Ham are aiming to take Demba Ba back to Upton Park on loan this season, despite the Senegalese striker only joining Chelsea in January. Ba is behind Romelu Lukaku and Fernando Torres in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and if Mourinho is able to sign another striker before the end of the transfer window he might be open to a move.
