Jozy Altidore bagged a hat-trick against Bosnia-Herzegovina in a 4-3 victory.
Sunderland have been a pretty busy club this summer. Paolo Di Canio signed plenty of new players, but in terms of banging in the goals, USA international Jozy Altidore is the man for the job.
The former Hull City man could have become one of those forgotten talents, destined to a career of journeyman status in far-flung corners of the globe.
But when he landed in Holland things suddenly looked up. He scored an incredible 51 goals in 91 games at AZ Alkmaar and therefore Sunderland are hoping he can carry that form into the Premier League – and fire them up the table next season.
And he will be coming into the new season full of confidence – after his excellent performance for the USMNT on Wednesday night.
USA were playing Bosnia-Herzegovina in an international friendly last night, and it was a thrilling game.
Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko may have found the target twice, but anything the Bosnia star can do it appears the Black Cats newbie can do better.
Because, following on from a goal by former Fulham striker Eddie Johnson, Altidore grabbed a hat-trick in the goal.
While any goal is a good goal is the striker’s motto, his third was particularly special. I never knew that Altidore had such a majestic free-kick on him.
His bending effort left the Bosnian keeper with absolutely no chance, and put USA 4-2 up in the Olympic Stadium, Sarajevo.
Here are the USA goals from the tie…
Do you think Altidore can have a similar impact for Sunderland this weekend?
