Willian is up for sale at Anzhi Machachkala, just months after making a £30 million switch from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Last week we speculated whether Manchester United dare make a blockbuster move for the attacker, in an upgrade on Nani who has just one year left on his contract.
Now it appears that suggestion could be a go-er, with The Mail claiming United have made contact over the ace.
Their report states: "United have now made their own enquiry and Old Trafford is believed to be Willian’s preferred destination."
That will infuriate Liverpool fans who had hoped the Reds were in pole position for the player. and the Mail claim that Liverpool are in 'advanced discussions' for the Brazilian.
Willian even talked up a move earlier tonight in an interview in his homeland, stating he would be interested in a side on the scale of Liverpool and is waiting for offers.
"Now I'm hoping, of course, in the coming days to receive an offer from a club like Liverpool. If even Liverpool, it sure is a great club. I am hopeful and peaceful hoping for the best."
Willian is as explained a player United would see as an upgrade, but he is not necessarily a priority - That would be a central midfielder, as they have been trying unsuccessfully to sign all summer.
Liverpool on the other hand have already declared their intention to sign a new winger and move Coutinho into the centre, and sold Stewart Downing earlier this week.
Could Manchester United nab the exciting Brazilian from under their noses? Let us know your thoughts on the report...
