Arsenal are still in the hunt for Luis Suarez, and are reportedly considering making a final bid of around £49million for the striker.
Yesterday was the most confusing day in the transfer saga so far, with Suarez, who is on international duty with Uruguay, firstly quoted as saying he would stay at Liverpool due to the support of the fans, before denying saying any such thing after his team’s win over Japan.
Liverpool have not changed their stance that the striker is not for sale this summer, and Brendan Rodgers is expected to reiterate that position in a press conference today.
Arsenal are set to miss out on Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo, who has apparently opted to stay in Germany with Wolfsburg rather than move to the Emirates.
There are varying reports over why Arsenal might have lost out, with some suggestions they were unwilling to raise their £14million offer to meet Bayern’s £17million valuation, and others citing Wolfsburg’s good relationship with the Bundesliga champions and the huge wages they were prepared to pay Gustavo.
Whatever the reason, it is another high profile target that Arsenal have missed out on this summer, after also failing with club record bids for Lars Bender, Gonzalo Higuain and Suarez.
Dzeko has played his way into Manuel Pellegrini’s first team with a fine pre-season, and City’s new manager has even recently said that the 27-year-old is first choice at the Etihad.
Lille winger Florian Thauvin, who has been linked with both Arsenal and Newcastle United this summer, is reportedly available for around £13million.
The French club only signed Thauvin from Bastia in January, and having loaned him back to Bastia for the rest of the season, the 20-year-old has yet to make his debut for Lille.
