10 Bold predictions for Premier League season

Fulham, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Swansea City, and Arsenal feature...

With the season approaching fast, Jamie Allen sticks his neck out and makes 10 bold predictions. Take a look below...

1) First manager to be sacked

It always one of the early season talking points but I think the first manager to leave his post will be Martin Jol. He’s had a few seasons with Fulham but I predict a bad start for them and the new owner will want to appoint his own manager. It will be a close run race with Newcastle’s Alan Pardew, who will also struggle to hold on to his job once the season begins.

2. First team to be relegated

Having picked them to finish last this season I think it’s only right that Crystal Palace will be the team that learns their fate first. Not quite a Derby-type season but nevertheless still a difficult campaign, but they confirm their relegation in April.

3) When the league will be won?

The league will be won by Manchester City with four games to spare, their challengers will put up a good fight but City’s squad will have too much for them as they pull away a secure their second Premier League title in late April or early May.

4) How the league will be won

It will look as though it will be a tight finish for a long time but a late surge by Manchester City will see them win it comfortably by 5 or more points. Sadly no last day drama this time for City and they won’t have to rely on goal difference this time around.

5) League's top goalscorer

This will be a very competitive race throughout the season; will van Persie be able to make it a hattrick of golden boots? I predict that although the Dutchman will score goals Sergio Aguero will take the award; the Argentinian will fire Manchester City to the title with 30 goals.

6) Best buy of the summer

Wilfried Bony – The new Swansea striker scored 46 goals in just 65 games for his previous club Vitesse in Holland and his name attracted the big clubs this summer but it was the Welsh club who managed to seal the deal for just £12m. He will be a brilliant but and he will score for fun with Swansea, the big teams will be kicking themselves for missing out on him.

7) Worst buy of the summer

This will be tough to predict as you can never tell and the fact that the transfer window hasn’t even shut yet. There’s still potential for a questionable transfer deal to go through. Early candidates include Vito Mannone of Sunderland, Fernandinho of Manchester City (he can’t possibly live up to his price tag).

8) When will Sky Sports claim the title race is over?

As usual they will claim it is over at many points during the season and each time they do it is far from over. Any team that pulls out to a lead of over 4fourpoints will be declared as champions at some point. Watch out around Christmas for the first announcement that the title race is over; watch out even more for the next five months when the phrase will be uttered at every weekend.

9) Who will be the biggest deadline day movers?

Arsenal – they need reinforcements for their squad and they cannot possibly go into the season with such a thin squad. You have to hope that some deals will be done otherwise it could be another season of scrapping into the top four.

10) At what time on the 2nd of September will Sky Sports’ presenter Jim White explode with excitement?

Well as the window closes at 11pm you’ve got to guess at somewhere from 9pm onwards, this is when things really start to hot up and sky sports news reporters are scattered across the UK. Jim White will probably be somewhere in the stratosphere though hopefully no one will get too excited and do a Nick Collins by falling off a ladder.
