Five options for Arsenal after Luis Suarez’ U-Turn

Arsenal have missed out on another big target after Luis Suarez backed down from his fight with Liverpool to stay at the club, what should the Gunners do now?

Jackson Martinez

If Arsenal are still set on bringing in a truly special player to lift their team, then their best remaining option could be Porto’s Jackson Martinez. The Colombian recently denied that he had signed a new contract with the Portuguese club, and has a buy-out clause of just under £35million. With 26 goals in 30 league appearances last season, Martinez has the pedigree to be a superb signing for Arsenal, and his buy-out clause should mean they avoid any protracted negotiations.

Closer to home is Swansea’s Michu, who might not be the out and out striker Arsenal fans were hoping for, but who would linked naturally with the Arsenal midfield and has proven his ability to score goals in the Premier League. With 18 for Swansea last season, including a match-winning brace at the Emirates, Arsenal fans are well aware of Michu’s quality.

Edin Dzeko

Having seemed likely to leave Manchester City at the start of the summer, Dzeko appears to now be a key part of Manuel Pellegrini’s plans. However with plenty of other strikers on the books, and Dzeko able to recall the bit part role he played last season, Arsenal might be able to tempt him away with guaranteed starts in a Champions League side.

Christian Benteke

After signing a new contract with Aston Villa Benteke is likely to stay at the Midlands club, but were Arsenal to make their interest clear they might still be able to tempt the Belgian striker to London this summer. Villa have previously indicated they would be willing to sell at around £25million, and although that price might have risen with Benteke signing a new deal, the 22-year-old would still be comfortably in Arsenal’s price range.

Olivier Giroud

Even closer to home is Olivier Giroud, and given the Frenchman’s prolific form in pre-season, Arsene Wenger might decide he cannot improve on his current striker. Giroud has all the attributes to be an excellent Premier League striker, and a record of substantially increasing his goal return in his second season at a club. Perhaps Arsenal already have the striker they need.

Arsenal fans, who do you want to lead the line for your side next season?
