Is the midfield maestro on his way out of Madrid? Is a return to Liverpool on the cards? Where else...?
There has been plenty of speculation at Real Madrid over the summer about the future of Xabi Alonso. Rumoured to have failed to agree a new contract, Alonso’s time at Real Madrid could be up at the end of next summer. Here are a few clubs who may attract the attention of the Spanish international:
There has been much talk about a return to his former club, and many Liverpool fans think that he was never really replaced after leaving the club in 2009. Fans still think he has an affection for the club, and with his passing and his ability to dictate play, he would have plenty to offer any side playing under Brendan Rodgers’ Will he want a return to Merseyside?
Well, since we’re talking about former clubs, how about a return to where it all started? They seem to be doing ok without Alonso having qualified for the Champions League, but would they want to bring him back to help make that a regular occurrence?
One of the more exciting teams to watch in Serie A, with plenty of movement. With a precision passer like Alonso in their side he would be a valuable asset to their side, and could be the difference between Fiorentina regularly qualifying for the Champions League and not.
One can’t help but feel that Alonso will be the exactly the type of player who would fit in well at Arsenal. With plenty of experience and pedigree, he would also compliment Arsene Wenger’s style of play, and may become a key figure in the dressing room if Arsenal bring more players to the first team.
He was linked with them in the past but when Alonso turns 32 Pirlo will be turning 35. A lot will depend if Pirlo ever decides to call it a day or move on from Juventus, but if they ever wanted an effective replacement they could do a lot worse.
Where do you expect Alonso to play next?
