CONFIRMED: England and Scotland line-ups - United's Rooney starts

Headline hugging Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney leads the line for Roy Hodgson's Lions.

England national team manager has named a strong first XI against Scotland at Wembley Stadium, London, this evening as Manchester United strike force Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck together with Arsenal duo Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere all feature.

There is no room for Michael Carrick, however, as the midfielder had earlier been ruled out of action due to an eye infection.

All eyes will be on Rooney as captain Steven Gerrard indicated that he will be looking to release his energy upon a Scottish backline consisting of Alan Hutton, Grant Hanley, Russell Martin and Steven Whittaker.

If Gerrard's pre-match sentiment proves prophetic then manager Roy Hodgson will be buoyed as the Three Lions boss will be looking to do the double over the country's neighbours having overseen England Under 21s 6-0 thrashing of the Scottish U21s last night, Tuesday.

England XI: Hart; Walker, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines; Gerrard, Cleverley, Wilshere; Walcott, Rooney, Welbeck.

Scotland XI: McGregor; Hutton, Hanley, Martin, Whittaker; Snodgrass, Brown, Morrison, Forrest, Maloney; Miller.
