Arsenal latest: Including Suarez and Sagna

News and gossip from the past 24 hours at the Emirates.

Luis Suarez will not be signing for Arsenal, according to plenty of reports today based on a Uruguayan source.

It was reported late last night by a respected Latin American journalist, Martin Chaquero, that Suarez had confirmed to him personally that he would be staying at Anfield – because of the reception he has received from fans, despite his apparent desire to seal a move away. He even intimated that the Uruguayan striker could sign a new deal at the club.

Now it is reported in Uruguayan newspaper El Observador, in a direct quote from Suarez, that he will indeed be a Liverpool player next season:

"For now, because of all the affection of the people, I will be staying,"

If these reports turn out to be true, then Arsenal will have to look elsewhere for their big name signing this summer.

However that is a big if, because Suarez himself after the game with Uruguay's friendly with Japan stated:

"I didn't say that, maybe someone else did and the main thing is that I am here now with the national team."

Arsenal are reportedly entering new contract talks with Bacary Sagna. The French international is out of contract next summer – and his future has been at the centre of speculation for a while.

However he recently intimated a desire to stay at the club – and The Gunners seem ready to act on it.

Meanwhile the same report suggests that Arsenal will also strengthen the position by bringing in Schalke 04 right-back Atsuto Uchida.

Arsene Wenger is reported to be eyeing up a potential swoop for Swansea City star Michu and Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

Neither are reportedly for sale but as Arsenal continue to miss out on their reported targets, they could be prepared to overpay to bring in the players.

One player who won’t be signing for Arsenal is Sebastian Perez. The young Colombian midfielder was on trial with the club, even featuring against Manchester City in a pre-season friendly.

Luiz Gustavo is edging away from an Arsenal switch The Bayern Munich midfielder is reported to have chosen Wolfsburg as his destination, as per reports in Germany.

Arsenal are said to be after a pair of PSV Eindhoven starlets. It is said that Giorginio Wijnaldum and Zakaria Bakkali have caught the fancy of the Frenchman.
