Lyon playmaker Yoann Gourcuff could see his dream move to Arsenal fall through.
Like an old flame being revisited, Yoann Gourcuff rekindled an 'almost-was' relationship this week with his desire to play for Arsenal revealed.
The Lyon man said he would even take a pay cut to finally play under Arsene Wenger, with the French manager known to be a past admirer of his.
Lyon president Jean Michel-Aulas said: "'All that I know, if I understood correctly, is that he was ready to lower his salary to go to Arsenal."
But Arsenal fans should not get ahead of themselves, for a predictable story is also emerging; he is injured.
Gourcuff hurt his knee in Lyon's opening Ligue 1 game, a 4-0 win over Nice, and it was announced on Tuesday he would go for a scan.
Planet Lyon: Unfortunately, Yoann Gourcuff is injured again, they say. He is having an MRI on his knee this afternoon. #OL— Get French Football (@GFN_France) August 13, 2013
The results will be announced in due course later this week, and it has been speculated in the French media that Gourcuff could face weeks on the sidelines.
If it turns out to be that sort of scenario, the injury prone attacker will find any Arsenal move off the table, or at least postponed until the next transfer window pops up and he gets the chance to push for it again.
Arsenal fans, do you want Gourcuff?
